Many Scientology Volunteer Ministers who went to Louisiana and Mississippi after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita used Dianetics counseling to help people recover from the immediate effect of the shock of the incident.
Dianetics the Modern Science of Mental Health is easy to learn and anyone can use it to help others.
There are many testimonials on the Scientologists On-Line site of how Dianetics has changed peoples' lives.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers Use Dianetics To Help Others
Scientology Volunteer Ministers use Dianetics when necessary to assist people through the trauma caused by disasters such as the recent Asian Tsunami. VMs in that region trained thousands of people on the techniques of Dianetics and those trainees helped tens of thousands of tsunami victims to recover.

Dianetics: The Evolution of a Science
Dianetics: The Evolution of a Science is L. Ron Hubbard’s own story of the developmental trail which led to the breakthroughs of Dianetics and the discovery of the reactive mind. This is the book which preceded and heralded his definitive handbook on the subject, Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health.

What is Dianetics?
Dianetics spiritual healing technology can help alleviate such ailments as unwanted sensations and emotions, irrational fears and psychosomatic illnesses (illness caused or aggravated by mental stress). The word Dianetics comes from the Greek words dia, meaning through and nous, soul. The full and proper definition of Dianetics is what the soul is doing to the body through the mind.

Beliefnet is a large religious website. They have this article which I have taken the liberty of correcting.
This is on the subject of Scientology and Dianetics:
Founder: Scientology was founded in 1952 by L. Ron Hubbard, an American science fiction writer and author of the best-selling book "Dianetics" (1950), which launched a popular self-enhancement movement out of which the Church of Scientology emerged.
Main Tenets: The name Scientology means "knowing how to know," and it maintains that it "constitutes man's first real application of scientific methodology to spiritual questions." Scientology asserts it is not merely a belief system but a mode of action, and it has a complicated vocabulary of its own. Its basic postulate is that experience, in this or in previous lives, is recorded in the brain as a series of "engrams." These engrams are revived and reinforced by recurring similar situations and always cause inappropriate and self-defeating behavior. One's goal of Scientology is to "process" or clear these engrams and become more self-determining. By erasing these accretions from one's present and past lives, one releases the essential, spiritual self or soul called the "thetan." Scientology has ministers who perform some religious rites and sacraments, but their main function is individual counseling. Scientology is tightly organized from the top down, with a close-knit inner circle and many highly committed adherents, including such celebrities as John Travolta
and Tom Cruise.
The church has impressive property holdings as well as a history of conflict with the German and French government, while fully recognized as a religion by the American, Australian, Swedish and many other governments.
Main Sacred Text: L. Ron Hubbard's best-selling book "Dianetics" is probably the closest thing to sacred scriptures for the Church of Scientology. It is a self-help book that helps people understand and eradicate unwanted feelings and reactions.

Dianetics workshops are conducted in Indonesia. The workshops, run by Scientology Volunteer Ministers, teach the attendees how to effectively help tsunami survivors deal with their trauma.
From one of the Scientology VMs of the Medan relief team in Indonesia:
“Apart from those who had suffered physically, we saw so many people left shaken, unable to sleep, experiencing heavy grief from their loss and with no will to carry on. We knew we had something that would help and that something could be done about it.
“Therefore, we started giving Dianetics spiritual counseling, one-on-one. The relief people experienced soon spread by word of mouth and before we knew it, people were coming to us at a greater rate than we could deal with.
“The solution to this was to train people in this technique and get them helping us to help others. This has been a great success and people from all walks of life got involved. We have trained local members of the community who just want to help, doctors, nurses, people from the military and other volunteer groups who saw for themselves what a simple, but effective remedy Dianetics counseling is.
“I believe the total number of people we have trained is around three hundred, that means a lot of people can now be helped.”
Comments from some people who completed the Dianetics workshop:
“This seminar was very good. It made me feel better. Here we have learned how we can help others to be better. I realized that even by just being patient and listening that you can help someone a lot.” - Djamin
“I have always wanted to know about Scientology and what they do because I saw the yellow t-shirts. I heard there was this workshop today and I came. I think it’s really good. Before Dianetics I felt like there was a lot of weight on my shoulders but now it has been lifted and I feel lighter and more comfortable and happier.” - Ikhsan
“I learn a lot today. I think we are all burdened in some way with emotions and many people just cannot deal with them. But with the Dianetics workshop we learned how to relieve these emotions and get rid of the burden.” -A.T.
“I have learned more in this afternoon than from three years of professional training. I want to thank the Scientologists who give their time and energy to come here and help the Aceh people.” - R.H.
