Dianetics in Hualien, Taiwan: the Navigator Dianetics Group

Along the east coast of Taiwan lies the port of Hualien, a city of concealed contrasts. On the surface, it’s a fertile plain bounded by the Chungyang Mountains and reminiscent of a China of ancient and imperial composure. But look deeper and there stands a post-industrial Taiwan, which has paid the price of material gain with broken lives and crushed spirits.

In his book, Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, L. Ron Hubbard wrote, You are beginning an adventure. Treat is as an adventure. And may you never be the same again.

Entering the workforce straight from high school, Yu-Wen Hsu was fast on the road to occupational burnout. Then she discovered Dianetics and instinctively knew she’d found her true career calling.

Yu-Wen immediately trained as an auditor. Auditor means one who listens, from the Latin audire meaning “to hear or listen.” An auditor is a person trained and qualified in applying auditing, Scientology and Dianetics counseling, to individuals for their betterment. She then started her own Dianetics Group, calling it “Navigator,” a word conveying her purpose to help guide the Taiwanese people through the din of Hualien’s workaday world.

Her living room served as headquarters where she reached out to friends and former colleagues. Then came books to new readers and personality tests (Oxford Capacity Analysis, or OCA Tests) filled out right on her coffee table. That’s also where she held Hualien’s first Dianetics seminar and co-audit. A co-audit is “cooperative auditing,” in which two people learn how to audit, and audit each other.

Those who stepped on board became the backbone of the navigator staff, and with her team in place they advanced into the heart of Hualien’s business district. They placed posters in shop windows along Jung Yuan Road and distributed handbills up and down Suyida Jai and Chi Sin Tan Streets. They sold books along every side street from the Yenpin Temple to Beibin Park. Yu-Wen also printed open invitations for OCA testing in the pages of the Gun-Sun Daily News to 50,000 more.

The result was a flood of people that quickly outstretched her living room. That’s when the Navigator team opened their New Knowledge of Life Center, where they could accommodate better than 50 people at a time.

Offering a weekly Dianetics seminar filled to capacity public went right into auditing each other using Dianetics—from the bank teller who’d suffered a series of losses, now able to move beyond her grief, to the salesman who rid himself of chronic terror crippling his career, word spread farther by the week.

Taiwan’s shaman healers were more than a little interested in how to handle psychosomatic ills when they were introduced to Book One at the Wung Gu Temple.

Response to a lecture for executives and staff of the nation’s largest insurance company was so positive that the human resources manager called for follow-up training.

With word of mouth also spreading along the academic grapevine, You-Wen was the guest of honor at Tzu-Chi Buddhist College for a workshop and lecture at the nursing college on Preventive Dianetics.

Future guidance counselors at National Taitung University were taught Dianetics theory, followed by a student-to-student co-audit. Yu-Wen then took Dianetics to the famed Hualien Tourism and Hospitality College, where she addressed 600 members of the student body.

Then for one more zone of Hualien society in dire need of Dianetics, at Hualien’s district Detention Center Yu-Wen laid out the fundamentals of Dianetics to the Director of Corrections, who opened the doors for a Dianetics seminar and inmate co-audit.

On the flip side of the law enforcement equation, Dianetics wasn’t just a hit with the Shin-Cheng District Police, it was front-page news in the Eastern Daily Newspaper, which proclaimed, “Dianetics reduces police pressures.”

Yu-Wen Hsu and her ‘Navigator’ Group are bringing Dianetics to every sector of Hualien society.

With Navigator now guiding whole sectors of the regional population, Yu-Wen saturated the rest of her city with word about Dianetics through the media—on the “Wisdom Treasure Box Show” on Happy Radio FM 98.3, the “Fashion Top Party” show on Top Radio 89.7, and the popular morning television program, “Hotline Talking Show” on CATV.

What began with one Dianetics auditor has swelled to a full-fledged grassroots movement in Hualien, benefiting the 203,490 people now introduced to Dianetics.

In his book, Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “You are beginning an adventure. Treat is as an adventure. And may you never be the same again.” Yu-Wen Hsu and her Navigator Dianetics Group are bringing this adventure to the people of their city.

Dianetics in Mali, Making Life Better

A Dianetics group in the West African nation of Mali uses Dianetics: the Modern Science of Mental Health to make a real difference in peoples lives

With Dianetics now translated into 50 languages, people in every corner of the globe are reading the book and using it, to help themselves and others. A Dianetics group in the West African nation of Mali is making good use of the book in French.

“Dianetics” means “what the soul is doing to the body through the mind,” and the book, Dianetics: the Modern Science of Mental Health is a handbook of Dianetics procedure.

Using that book as a text, the Mali Dianetics Group sets up seminars, workshops and study groups in Bamako and Timbuktu, and trains people from all walks of life. The group reaches out with this technology, developed by L. Ron Hubbard. And it really changes lives.

In their seminars and workshops, people gain first hand experience with Dianetics. Those attending these training sessions team up with each other and use what they learn to help one another. And their gains are often spectacular.

One example is the story of a man who came to the group for help. Someone had robbed him at gunpoint, stealing his money, papers and phone. Since that time he could hardly sleep at night. He became nervous and depressed, which cut across his ability to live and work. As time went by and he continued to suffer from this, he became despondent. He came to the Dianetics group hoping for some relief. After one Dianetics session, he was no longer afraid. He could walk through the streets where this robbery happened without fear. He could talk about the experience without getting upset, which he could not do at all before.

Dianetics on Human Rights Day

Equality, Freedom, Opportunity. All the things that are the keynotes of human rights. But without a science of the mind that works, each of us in the human family are deprived of these rights by our own limitations and irrationality. To really fulfill the promise of human rights requires understanding yourself and being able to help yourself and others.

Plus, who but the insane would rob people of their rights, subject them to torture, indignity, poverty and death.

And if insanity can really be overcome, then human rights can indeed become a fact.

The primary step in resolving the broad activities of man could be considered to be the resolving of the activities of the mind itself.— L. Ron Hubbard -- Scientology 0-8

Scientology Course on the Human Mind Delivered in Romania

With interest high in Scientology and Dianetics a course called “The Anatomy of the Human Mind” met with great success in Timisoara, Romania.

The publication last fall of 9 Scientology and Dianetics books in Romanian has ignited tremendous interest in the subject of the human mind. Add to that the presence in the country of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers European Goodwill Tour, and demand for Scientology and Dianetics courses was inevitable.

In answer to the many requests for more information, a course was presented called “The Anatomy of the Human Mind Course.” It was held in the city of Timisoara, Romania to a packed house and covered basic concepts of the Scientology religion. The course was based on a series of lectures first delivered by Scientology founder, L. Ron Hubbard in December 1960 and January 1961.

The course contains a precise description of the mind, how the mind works, its components, and its relationship to the individual. It addresses such things as improving memory, how past instances of pain and painful emotion affect one’s life in the present and how to eradicate these ill effects.

Copies of the original lectures by L. Ron Hubbard are available in English and 15 other languages through New Era Publications Incorporated in Europe and Bridge Publications for the Americas, Africa, Asia, Australia and Oceania.

Church of Scientology of Malmo Introducing People to Dianetics

Staff and volunteers of the Church of Scientology of Malmö take to the streets to share the good news about Dianetics with their community

Malmö-Since its grand opening in April, staff and members of the Church of Scientology of Malmö have been introducing their neighbors in the greater Malmö area to Dianetics: the Modern Science of Mental Health, and its potential for bringing about important reforms and improvements in the city.

First published in May 1950, this perennial bestseller has even more relevance today than it did 59 years ago. And nowhere more so than in the greater Malmö area.

The people of Malmö face enormous challenges. According to one recent article, unemployment in the Rosengaard district of the city is 70 percent, crime affects one of every three Malmö families each year and the number of rapes has tripled over the past 20 years.

The first step in changing any situation is understanding the underlying causes of the problem. In addition to revealing why people act the way they do and how to dramatically improve the quality of life on a one-on-one basis, Dianetics also “embraces the conditions and processes of leadership and intergroup relations,” explaining how groups, cultures and even nations become irrational. It goes on to state, “There is no national problem in the world today which cannot be resolved by reason alone.”

L. Ron Hubbard wrote Dianetics so that anyone could read it and easily learn techniques to help people overcome the most unwanted conditions in their lives. In addition to making this book broadly available, the Church of Scientology of Malmö offers Dianetics Seminars courses and profession training at its new headquarters at Sockerbruksgatan 2, Arlöv, 23 235 Malmö.

For more information, contact the Church of Scientology of Malmö or visit the Dianetics web site.
